Hunt Valley Church Worship

Join the Worship Team.

We’d love to hear from you. This page walks you through exactly what to expect — every step, start to finish — so there are no surprises. Take your time, and reach out whenever you’re ready.

Before you begin

A word before you start: an audition is never guaranteed, and neither is a spot on the team. That’s not a reflection of your worth or your walk with the Lord — it’s simply part of finding the right fit for our church family in this season. However your journey goes, we’re grateful you’re here.

The Journey

Five steps, start to finish

  1. Initial Conversation

It starts with a simple conversation. Pick a time that works for you and we’ll talk — no pressure and nothing to prepare. We just want to hear your story, learn what you play or sing, and answer any questions you have about serving here.

  2. Submit a Video

Send us a video of you singing or playing a worship song you know well. A phone recording is perfectly fine — we’re not judging the production or the mix, we just need to hear you clearly. This helps us know whether a live audition is the right next step, since an audition asks real time and preparation of everyone involved.

  3. Invitation Decision

After we’ve watched your video, we’ll prayerfully decide whether to invite you to a live audition. For some, the journey pauses here, and that’s okay. It doesn’t mean “no” forever — sometimes it simply means “not yet.”

  4. Live Audition

If you’re invited, you’ll join the team on a Thursday night and play together in person. We’ll send the full details — time, place, and what to prepare — in a separate email once you’re invited, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.

  5. Welcome, or Keep Growing

Afterward, we’ll be honest and kind with you about one of two things: a warm welcome to the team, or an encouragement to keep growing and try again down the road. Either way, you’ll leave knowing where you stand and that you’re valued.

Songs & What to Prepare

Choosing your song

For your video, pick any worship song that shows us who you are honestly — something you already know well and love to play or sing. Keep it in the worship genre, and make sure we can hear you clearly. The overall mix isn’t the point; we just want a realistic sense of your playing or singing.

Once you’re in the process, the songs and charts for your audition come through Planning Center Online, the same tool the team uses to plan every service. We’ll get you set up when the time comes.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Do I need to be a professional musician?

Not at all. We’re listening for someone who loves to worship and plays or sings well enough to help lead the congregation. Skill matters, but a humble, teachable heart matters just as much.

What song should I use for my video?

Any worship song you know well and can play or sing honestly. Simple is good. We just need to hear you clearly — the recording quality and mix aren’t what we’re evaluating.

What if I’m not invited to audition?

It’s not a judgment of your worth or your faith. Sometimes the fit or the timing isn’t right yet. You’re always welcome to keep growing and reach out again down the road.

What happens at the live audition?

You’ll play alongside the team on a Thursday night so we can see how you connect musically and get a feel for serving here. We send the full details once you’re invited, so you’ll know exactly what to prepare.

How long does the whole process take?

It varies. We move prayerfully rather than on a fixed clock, and we’ll keep you informed at each step. If you’re ever wondering where things stand, just ask.

Who can I contact with questions?
